Devotion 1: Own where you are

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus gives an instruction to take all our issues to him with an assurance that He will give us rest. I find it easier said than done for us. While we go through different circumstances in life , going boldly to him requires intentionality that is a result of owning the circumstances we are in

I have realized that owing my mistakes is a such a wonderful blue print for self improvement . It’s the same for all other situations. Whether you got yourself to where you are , or circumstances have led you there , own it. Accept that you are truly falling into an addiction , you are undergoing a financial crisis , your marriage is shaking , you are sick, you need some help , etc. OWN IT

It’s so important to own where you are because it gives you the confidence to take the burden to Jesus. You can’t take to him what you don’t think is yours ,right? We usually pray so hard when we are sick because we feel the pain in our own bodies, right? Because we own the pain . Owning where we are can actually give us the ability to change where are heading to

Despite being a faithful servant , Job went through a rough time . Above everything else , he owned the dark times. He knew there was a reason behind his circumstances . He accepted all his losses and took the burden to God. That’s exactly how we should live. Instead of running away from our problems, we can choose to own them and take them to the one who has the power to lift the burden off our shoulders.

I pray that we will live to accept and own every situation we get to in our lives . No matter the intensity , how great will it be when we carry all our heavy loads [leaving none behind] to our maker.
